Sustainable Living

I was an electrician in the Air Force, so I know quit a bit about energy. I am keenly aware of the tremendous waist of energy that takes place in our society here in North America. The computer that I am using to create this post is running at 13 watts. I used to use a high end graphics workstation (aka, BFGaming rig) for everything; not paying any attention to the 350 watts of continuous power draw. These days I could run a classroom full of computers on that 350 watts.

Appropriate Diet

I found myself ignoring my health, I was over weight with no muscle tone, depression and anxiety where the hallmarks of my existence. One day I was looking at some old photographs and found pictures of myself on the flightline back in South Dakota. I took it to the mirror and stood there wondering where that handsome young man went. It motivated me in a way that I could only describe as archetypal. I formed in myself a firm and life long commitment to my overall health and wellbeing through diet and exercise. I left social media. ;p

Architecture and Civil Engineering

In 55 BC, the Emperor of Rome; Julius Caesar, decided that he needed to explore the region north of the Rhine; the river presents itself as the geographical boarder between the western region of the empire and the villages and tribes of Germania. Emperor Julius Caesar marched to the Rhine constructing the road as he approached; meeting the river, his men built a pillar bridge to cross the Rhine. This bridge was 1/4 mile long and 30ft across; pillared into the river’s bed. 30ft is the depth of the Rhine. When he returned to Rome, he disassembled the bridge and stated that there was nothing of value in Germania.
